Whirlwinds dominate Conway

The Russellville Junior High School Whirlwinds breezed past rival Conway White Junior Wampus Cats 52-22 on Monday inside Whirlwind Gymnasium.

"We came out with amazing energy and enthusiasm," Russellville head coach Matt Howerton said. "We shot it extremely well and executed the game plan about as perfect as possible."

The Whirlwinds led 22-11 at the end of the first quarter and 36-15 at halftime. After the third quarter, Russellville was up 49-20.

The Whirlwinds were led in scoring by Marquis Peter and Nicholas Carter with 12 points each.

Russellville improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the Central Arkansas Junior High Conference. The Whirlwinds are currently No. 3 in the conference behind North Little Rock and Bryant.

The eighth-grade team beat Conway 26-21. In that game, Jalen Montgomery had seven points. Brayden Whitford and Michael Jones each scored six points.

Russellville travels to Harrison today.

Conway White JG 32, RJHS 22

The Lady Whirlwinds were defeated 32-29 by Conway White.
Russellville led 6-3 after the first quarter but trailed 16-13 by halftime. After the third quarter the Lady Whirlwinds trailed 24-17.

Russellville outscored the Junior Lady Wampus Cats 12-8 in the fourth quarter and only trailed one points with about a minute left in the game.

"A lot of time ticked off while we were trying not to foul, but we ended up getting a big steal with 15 seconds left and a chance at a layup, but we missed the shot in the lane with a lot of contact and had to foul," Russellville head coach Chase White said. "We are still learning how to finish game when we're fighting back, but it's still early and we still believe we can beat anyone we come against."
