Luncheon honors athletic achievements

Four individuals were honored Sunday for special achievements in athletics by the Conway Athletic Awards Commission.

Longtime Conway multi-sport coach and assistant athletic director Janet Taylor was presented the Elijah Pitts Award for career achievement.

Hendrix All-American football player Dayton Winn received the Marvin Delph Award as sportsman of the year in 2015.

Former Conway High basketball star Taylor Gault, who went on to become one of the greatest players in UALR history leading the Lady Trojans to three conference titles and the NCAA tournament last year, was presented the Delph Award as sportswoman of the year in 2015.

Former Hendrix president Dr. J. Timothy Cloyd, who spearheaded the development of the college’s athletic facilities and re-instituted football, earned the Joe B. McGee Award for meritorious service.

Eighth-grade students from Conway’s public and private schools received Marvin Delph Student-Athlete Awards for academic and athletic achievement.The students are: Bailey Burk, Jadah Pickens, Slayde Smith and Xavier Robertson from Conway Junior High School Blue Team; Addison Jordan, Kalista Love, Parker Prock and Haze Denton from Conway Junior High School White Team; Emily Briggler and John McKenna from St. Joseph Catholic School; and Marlie Moix and Beau Stevenson from Conway Christian School.The annual luncheon was held at the Mabee Student Center at Central Baptist College.
