Area football players are spending plenty of time over the summer working towards the 2016 season.

That means putting in the time during the seriously hot days of June and July.

Case in point the Mosley Dolphins, this is many of the 'Fins during some summer workouts.

The routine looks like this, the guys showing up four days a week, for three hours a day. Coach Brown telling us usually it's 45 to 55 kids each workout, and says the main focus is on speed, strength and agility over these weeks.

"Just trying to get the guys stronger and more explosive," Brown said. "We implement the weightroom, we vary what we do outside the weightroom with speed and agility, conditioning and endurance, explosive movements like you saw us today doing boxes, ladders and dots. Just those things, and hip strength; we're a big component on that. We think if you've got good hips, it helps prevent injuries. We're at our halfway point at four weeks. We've been working hard and are extremely excited."

Coach Brown goes on to say how their offseason differs from any other sport.

"Football's so tough," Brown said. "It's so much tougher than all the other sports in the offseason because you can't play games. You can go do some 7x7, but that's not real football. So, we have to try to be creative on how we can simulate competition. That's one of the reasons we put a time on everything. We tell the kids all the time, you're competing against the clock. How many reps can you get in this 30 second interval kind of deal. We're trying to constantly talk to our guys about competing, and being competitive because at the end of the day, that's what it's really about."

Mosley kicks off the 2016 season with a home game against Walton, August 19 at 7 p.m.
