Competing under some of the best weather conditions of the season Thursday, the Conway boys and girls track teams were dominant at the Wampus Cat Invitational at John McConnell Stadium. The Wampus Cats compiled 186.5 points to 109 for North Little Rock and 103.5 for Fort Smith Southside. The Lady Cats romped to 214.5 points to 115 for second-place Russellville. The Cats won six events, including the 4x800 and 4x400 relays. Ke’Von Holder, who signed with Arkansas State this week, won both the 110 and 300 hurdles. Cary McClain won the triple jump and Jonah Willis the 800. “We had nice weather and our performances show that,” said boys coach Johnny Kennedy. “Ke’Von Holder continues to shine in both hurdle races. We are very proud of the way our kids are competing at this point in the year. I really feel blessed to work with this group of young men. We had some nice surprises in our meet, that is because of the time and effort these guys are putting in.” The Lady Cats swept all three relays. Zailey Chaffin won both the long jump. Aly Brinkley, Savannah Lowe and Shak Smith were one-two-three in the high jump. Taylor Conway and Brinkley were one-two in the triple jump as were Mya Grimes and Jayla Couch in the 400 and Smith and Chaffin in the 400.
